Dream Big

I’ve always preferred big dogs. I spent my childhood tromping through the woods with my Golden Retrievers over streams and through thickets – the kind of hike a little dog might not have survived. I always considered little dogs yappy and annoying – that is, until I met Allie.

Allie was a friend’s 4-pound Maltese, a sweet, scampering moppet of a dog. But she didn’t let her diminutive stature get in the way of a good time. She chased cars, barked at strangers with grand ferocity, and sat under the barbecue hoping for a mistake. Never mind that if a stray pork chop had landed on her head it probably would have killed her. She had spunk, and I loved her so much I almost forgot she was a lapdog.

Allie died many years ago but she lives on in my memory, a totem figure representing a larger way to live. What would the world look like if we all imagined ourselves to be bigger – with more inspiration, strength, courage and ability than we possess? Would our lives and work expand to fill that image?

I’ve been exploring that idea for years. Anais Nin’s said, “Life shrinks or expands according to one’s courage,” and she’s right. My life has expanded in proportion to my willingness to take risks and pursue my goals with both strategy and abandon.

So I wish us all bon courage as we journey towards our dreams.

Since I believe as Jung taught; “There is no such thing as Coincidence, only synchronicity”, I find it interesting and motivating that you essentially paralleled with this wonderful story of Allie, an email that I received from my lead researcher this morning…

It contained a graphic with a ‘Small’ circle labelled; “Comfort Zone”, then a larger circle with an arrow pointing to it with the caption; “Where the magic happens.”

Seems like Allie spent her time; ‘Where the magic happens.’

Thank You for sharing and Congrats! on the new blog.

Thanks for sharing that potent image! You’re right – that’s synchronicity…
